Here is what you need before you connect.

DeskRally is a project for remote support and unattended access to Windows computers. A technician uses the browser console to connect to a computer running an agent. Each setup has its own server address and accounts.

Looking for help with your computer?

This is the project website. It does not run a public help desk. Use the address and instructions from the technician you contacted for help.

Start with what you need to do

  • You need help with your computer. Read receiving support. You do not need a technician account to join a one-time support session.
  • You help other people with their computers. Read the technician guide. You will need an account on the server you are using and permission to access the computer.
  • You want to run your own server. Start with the self-hosting overview. It explains the components and what you will need to maintain.

Decide how you will connect

One-time support

The technician creates a session and shares a code or link. The person receiving help runs the support client and approves sharing on their computer. Entering the code prepares the session; it does not approve screen sharing.

Unattended access

An administrator installs an agent on a computer that needs ongoing access. Technicians can then connect according to the account permissions and server policies. Someone does not need to enter a code for each connection.

A few things to check first

  • Make sure you have the right computer and server address.
  • Check that the computer has an internet connection.
  • Close anything you do not want visible before sharing your screen.
  • Use the software and instructions supplied by the administrator of your setup.

Where are the code and downloads?

I am still preparing the public source release. There is no public installer or hosted support account available through this website yet. The source page explains where that stands.
